About The Project
The WorldGenWeb Project was created in 1996 by Dale Schneider in an effort to answer the ever growing needs of genealogists world-wide who were trying to research their ancestors. The goal of the WorldGenWeb Project is to have every country in the world represented by an online website and hosted by researchers who either live in their own country or who are familiar with their country's resources. The WorldGenWeb Project is a not-for-profit volunteer genealogical organization dedicated to the free access of genealogical information by anyone in the world.
The ScotlandGenWeb Project has been online since early 1997. Since that time, the project has remained faithful to the goals and mission of the WorldGenWeb Project and continues today to provide FREE resource and reference information to researchers of the country of Scotland.
Our Philiosphy
The ScotlandGenWeb Project is committed to providing FREE access to resource and reference information for Scotland. Our dedicated group of volunteers (some local and some throughout the world) are active in Scottish research - each hosting a country that they have a research interest in. We pride ourselves on being "available" and being "friendly" -- offering helpful advice to new researchers. We are a non-commercial entity. We do not provide research for a fee nor do we recommend professional genealogists for hire. We do not engage in research for others -- although some of our volunteers do offer to do lookups, at their convenience. Our goal is to provide the "essential elements" that new researchers need. Among those are quality informational pages, pertinent addresses, county maps, query and surname resources, and friendly email lists.
Other Resource Sites
There are other Scottish resource websites on the internet today. The ScotlandGenWeb does take great pride in the service that we provide but we in no way believe ourselves to be the "only source" for Scottish research. As such we have formed collaborative relationships with many other Scottish resource sites, namely Genuki, Genealogy for the United Kingdom and Ireland. By working along side these other resource sites, together, we are able to provide a loosely connected Scottish Resource network that will serve researchers for many years to come.
We Need You
If you are new to Scottish research or are a seasoned professional, we need your time and talents to better this website. We need transcribers and friends of the project who are willing to donate resources so that we can build our online archives and offer free data to other researchers.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our pages. My e-mail address is:
